ThE PoTtY tRaIn. . .

So we've been potty training for about 2-3 weeks now and it's been an emotional roller coaster for all parties involved!!! The first two days were fantastic...he took right to it. No accidents, even "poo poo" in the potty. Loved his new big boy underwear, he even posed for the camera as you can see above & made me take of picture of Thomas on his bum as well as flaunt his cape around in his underoos too. But since then it has not been an easy feat. It seems like I take two steps forward just to take one step back. You see Parker is what I call an "independent" child. He wants to do everything himself and if it doesn't suit him to do it, well don't expect him give in! (ie. He has chosen a "time-out" on several occasions rather than to do something I ask).

He's doing quite well with the "pee pee" in the potty now with an accident here and there when going potty would just be too much of an interruption into his play time. But what I thought he had down in the first two days (poo, poos) he now tells me he doesn't have to go but 5 mins later I find him hiding in the corner with messed underpants!

I've read advice online, spent quite a bit of money on books, watches, etc. We have a little chart that he gets stickers & treats when he goes and we even bought him the coolest toy helicopter and stuck it on top of the fridge & told him that he can have it only when he can go pee, pee & poo poo in the potty. He loves the helicopter & asks about it everyday but yet none of these things have been quite enough motivation for our stubborn little independent. I know he's ready because he holds it just fine & tells me when he needs to go when we're in public & even wakes up dry every morning but at home during the day, it's like he knows there's plenty more clean underwear so why bother worrying about it. Ughhh!

This pregnancy for some reason I have been super emotional (totally unlike the first time) and needless to say this whole potty training thing has brought me to a few break downs over the last couple of weeks. Things have gotten a little easier & I think he's starting to get it but if anyone has that magic trick, please let it be known! Save me my sanity!

I had similar frustrations with Jack. Eddie took to the toy on the fridge like a charm, but not Jack.

One time, when Sam was on kid-duty, and Jack had an "accident", Sam made Jack clean it up by himself. He was so sicked out by it (gagging and choking through it) he never had an accident again. I don't know if I'd have been able to do it (it would have made me sad, plus there was a bigger mess to clean up afterwards) -but it worked.

Good luck, you'll find something that works, hang in there!!!

Those pictures of Parker in his cape and undies are adorable!

I've got no advise on the 'poo poo' thing.

I am with you girl, it is very frustrating, especially when your trying to clean it up by yourself when its just you two, and prego :(

I would try Melissa's technique, honestly it scares me to think of Jaimen cleaning it up. Knowing him he'd throw a tantrum and sit on the floor and get it everywhere, then just smear it, ick.

I did notice Jaimen this morning in his poopy diaper walking with spread legs, he doesn't like it. One day I might have to break down and make him sit in it. I know thats mean, but he's not getting the poo poo thing either.

Love the cape and undie pics!

I am so sorry!! I HATE potty training with a passion!! I have no advice. Both of my girls were 3 yrs old & when they were "ready" they did it on their own & we have been going strong ever since. I hope things are going well. We need to do dinner or something so when you get some time & need a break, give me a call.

Hey Katie! I found you from Lynsie. How have you been?
That's exciting on the potty training. It took my girl forever, but it was the opposite. She would wait forever to go pea. Stickers & treats worked for her, when we really decided to potty train. We just accomplished all night. :) HOORAY no more big diapers, just baby ones! Congrats on baby boy #2. :)

The dreaded potty training faze...I remember all too well.
Once they are trained it's great.
